Site Updates
Welcome to CambridgeLions.org
Here is a list of updates so you can check them out.
- Directory — Reloaded the directory with a whole bunch of stuff from Education, Tourism, and, of course, Matt Kenseth. The local community business links that were in there need to be readded. Also will be working on a new layout for the directory since it seems kind of difficult to read.
- Cambridge News Feed — Instead of using the WordPress Calendar opting to try Upcoming.org. Upcoming.org allows anyone to create a login and add events to “Metros” i.e. Cambridge. If you create your login you have additional options for the events. Otherwise you can link to the iCal from your personal calendar and have the updated events show up on your personal calendar on your computer. CambridgeLions.org connects to the Upcoming.org Cambridge Metro RSS feed and lists the top 25 events at Cambridge Events. If you notice we also pull in the Milwaukee Newspaper, Tourism, NetFlix, and a couple others.
- Advertising — on the lefthand side of the page you see a 120×600 Citizen State Bank Banner. Do not have it on all pages yet, but imagine that will be done soon. We charge $30 per year for the non-exclusive placement of the banner. All proceeds go to pay for the hosting of the site with all remaining cash going to the Cambridge Lions Club to help support the local community. CambridgeLions.org also has opens for four 120×60 banners that will be placed at the top of every page. Any local business looking for some exposure is encouraged to contact Christopher Meister. This is an inexpensive means to not only support your community, but also a nice addition to your online marketing plan.
- Post Comments — If you have a comment on a particuliar posting by all means click on the “Comments” link below the desired Post. It will it ask you for your name (required), email address (required), website (if you have one), and your comment. Your name and comment will be posted. Your email address is not. In the future we would like to collect the email addresses, verify that they are local community members, and sent opt-ins (you grant us rights to send you email) to a Cambridge e-Newsletter, e-Events which will provide information to you about local businesses and events.
- RSS – This entire site has an RSS feed so if you have an aggregator, you can receive updates whenever you want right to your computer, on your schedule. If you use Firefox instead of Internet Explorer you can simply install one of the many extensionsextension
- Polls — You will notice to the left that a polling question is on the page. This is to get feedback on particuliar topic either to improve the site or to post the results later to the website in order to open some discussion up. The question can be about anything, however all poll requests will be moderated to keep it somewhat professional.
- Contributors — CambridgeLions.org is looking for local contributors to assist with putting information up. This could be handy because you could post the article on the website and point “The Cambridge News” to the website for the content. That is just a thought. Looking for people that are key motivators and planners, as well as business owners of the community. Will not turn away anyone. Let Christopher Meister know if you are interested. It requires no software purchases and can be done from any computer with an internet connection and a web browser.
So enjoy and if you have any information that you would like to see on the site or have ideas, I’m open. Just give me a call or email me.
Sincerely,
Lion Christopher Meister
