District Governor’s Corner
Wow! Isn’t great being a Lion. As I continue my visitations and see all the good that is being done by all of the Lion Clubs in the District it makes me very proud to be associated with such a group. I also know that all of these good things are being repeated in all of the districts in the State and all over the world. This tremendous service to the underprivileged and youth of the world has progressed way beyond the dreams of Melvin Jones and the other organizers of Lions International. I think it would be a great idea if each and everyone of us would thank our sponsors for inviting us into such a humanitarian organization. If your sponsor is no longer with us thank someone in his or her family. I am sure they would appreciate it. I knew my
sponsor for years before I joined lions. I played in a dartball league with him and served on the City of New Berlin Common Council with him for four years prior to joining. Lion Fran was special. A good Lion and a good friend. Lion Fran, the way I heard the story, was born on Labor Day, married on Independence Day and passed away on Memorial Day.
Thank you Fran for opening the door of Lionism that has led to such heart warming experiences and the opportunity to serve the Lions of 27-A1.
Congratulations to the Burlington and East Troy Lions Clubs for running a successful State Bowling Tournament. Everyone I saw had a great time.
One more reminder to club secretaries. Please get your PU-101’s sent in as soon as possible. I know that the International due date is May 30 but we
need your information long before that to prepare the State Directory. DGE Wally has set his due date as April 15th so if you haven’t done it yet please do it now.
It may interest some of you that I have decided not to go to Hong Kong for the International Convention. I really wanted to be there to support our International Director candidate, Lion Wayne, and to enjoy the convention with Lion Wally. Lion Wally may not be able to become Governor without me being there to pull the “ELECT” tag from his badge. Don’t worry Wally they will figure out something. As the departure date drew closer the plane grew smaller and smaller. I took a trip to the airport to check them out. Everybody was telling me not to worry that the planes were so big and you could get up and walk around. They are big. I think if you parked the front on the California shore and got on there and walked to the back and got off you would be in Hong Kong. The sad truth is that big is not always the answer.
You are still confined to that space for 18 hours. I’m still looking for a large boat or if anyone knows of a road to Hong Kong let me know. That was one
road that Bing Crosby and Bob Hope didn’t take. I hope I will see you all at the State Convention. It is important that we get as many there as possible.
OUR DISTRICT is hosting the event and the Committee has been hard at work getting things ready.
