Nikolay Middle School Science Olympiad Team earns first place state competition trophy for division

On Saturday, April 30, the Nikolay Middle School Science Olympiad Team took part in the State Science Olympiad competition at UW-Oshkosh. This annual academic competition featured 44 teams from throughout Wisconsin. The team had prepared over the past five months for the 20-event state tournament. Team members prepared fro academic-oriented events adn built numerous technological devices prior to the competition. Events ranged from “Sounds of Music” which included building musical instrumetns that were tested on perfromance as well as the physics of sound; “Awesome Aquifer” where team mebers built a working groundwater model and presented technical aspects of hydrology; and “Road Scholar” where the most detailed aspects of topographic maps and map use were tested. Most event competitions were completed by evetn teams of two students. All 20 events needed to be covered by the 15-member competitive team.
