Lion Dave’s Corner

My fellow Lions, Lioness, & Leos,

OUT WITH THE OLD & IN WITH THE NEW!
It is that time of year again when we recognize the service of last year’s officers and install our new officers for next year.

Let me begin by congratulating PDG Claude “CJ” Johnson and his cabinet for a job well done. It takes a large investment of time and financial resources to serve as District Governor. I am sure CJ will tell you it is all worth it, but please take the time to say “Thank You” to PDG CJ and Lioness Betty for a job well done.

As far as your clubs are concerned this is also the time when you are installing new leadership. This is a time of optimism, new ideas and a time to set goals for the coming year. I challenge the new officers and boards of every club to take the time to take a look at what is good about your club and what is not so good. Then make plans to build on the positives and correct the negatives. You as officers have accepted responsibility for the well being of your club. When your year is over I hope all of you will be able to look back and say, “It was a job well done”.
MERLO

As Vice District Governor I am also chairman of the district MERLO team. MERLO is an acronym for Membership, Extension, Retention, Leadership and Orientation. These are all areas that are critical to future of Lions International and to the future of your clubs. I will be addressing these issues on a regular basis in my articles in the PRIDE and in my visits to your clubs. I think in general we do a good job of attracting new members, but sometimes we fall down when it comes to informing them who and what Lions are all about. In some cases we don’t give our members enough to do and we don’t always do a good job in patting members on the back and recognizing the work they do. These are all things you as officers and boards should think about in making your plans for the next year.

WE SERVE
This is our motto and I am here to serve you. Please feel free to contact me on any Lions issue that concerns you. Keep the cabinet informed on what is going on in your clubs, fundraisers, service projects, etc.. If possible we on the cabinet want to
support your club activities.

Have a great Lions Year
Vice District Governor Dave Hempel
