Hinchley Dairy Farm Tours

Today we visited the Hinchley Dairy Farm just outside of Cambridge on Hwy 73. It was quite exciting and it is one of the cleanest farms I have ever seen in my life. The environment is excellent for kids of all ages. Would not recommend taking a wagon or stroller though. Sam walked the tour while dad carried Cassandra.

At first the kids were quite scared of the cows. As if that is not a suprise. Looking at a 1200 lbs. animal from a 3 year olds perspective is quite scary. However, they warmed up to the cows rather quickly.

We started out with a hayride to go pick a pumpkin. From there we headed on the tour.

First was the barn where the cows were at. Tina did an excellent job explaining in kids terms how everything works, from what the cows eat to describing the relationship and processes of the farm. While with the cows you have the opportunity to squirt some milk from a cow. Sam would not do this first eventhough she stepped up. However, after she saw everyone else doing it she was not going to be left out. Cassandra even got up close and personal with milking the cow while dad gave his try at the old days.

Second we headed in to see the calves. The kids in the tour thoroughly enjoyed seeing the calves. I think because the calves were a bit more their size. Kids could pet the calves as well as let the calves suck on their fingers ..for those who were a little more daring that is…

Third headed into the milkhouse to see where all of the milk was stored. Hinchley farms sell to Dean, so the next time you are buying milk and other dairy products remember to support your local farmers by purchasing Dean products.

Fourth to the coop. Chickens galore and many that I have never seen before as well as some piglets. Bacon and Eggs….

Fifth to the yard which was set up so the kids could feed goats, chickens, turkeys. And yes the duck who thinks he is a turkey. :-)

We are very excited to head back to further explore the farm. Cannot forget to do the maze, haunted hayride, and haunted barn.

$8.00 per person children under two free. But given Cassandra’s expressions ( 1 year old ) paid $8.00 for her too. It was precious and worth it to support the Hinchleys. Hats off to this enterprising family farm.
