Lions Build Communities Good Ol’ Summertime
A Message from your District Governor, Gary Stewart
Lion Charlotte and I love summer. To us a big part of summer is taking in all the Lions
Events. Last weekend, we visited a lobster boil, a city festival and a chicken barbeque. Not that I’m suggesting you set such a hectic schedule, but one way you can improve your Club’s fundraising projects is to visit other Lions’ projects to see them first-hand.
For several years I served as the treasurer of a festival sponsored by an association that
included my Lions Club and other civic organizations. After a few years it was my turn to be president. I wanted to be a good president and I decided to visit other festivals and compare them to our festival. It was a real eye-opener. First, I was surprised at the high quality of our festival entertainment and second, I was surprised that other festivals had a better mix of food. My point is, there’s a lot to be learned from our fellow Lions.
For many Lions Clubs, summertime means its time to plan, set goals and draft budgets.
As your District Governor, that’s what I’ve been doing over the last few weeks. The
District’s goals are published in this newsletter and I ask you to take a few minutes to read them. I often find that people aren’t interested in things like budgets and goals. There’s another way to think of budgets and goals – they’re just plans. Take the time to do them, and do them well. Hey - face it, do you really want to be part of an organization that doesn’t have clear plans?
I would like to visit your Club. Presidents, please give me a call or send an email message so we can schedule my “official visit”.
Thanks and enjoy the summer.
