District Goals 2007-2008
I’m sure you have heard the old slogan, “In this company we don’t have problems, we have solutions”. Lions are problem solvers. That attitude goes hand-in-hand with our motto, “We Serve” and with International’s “Challenge to Change” program. We live in a world filled with humanitarian needs. By working together, we will turn those needs into solutions.
Membership
A healthy organization needs to grow.
• Let’s work toward a net increase in our membership of 24 new members plus charter
two new Lions Clubs. To grow we need to change our organization so it offers greater
appeal to families, young people and women.
• We need to “close the backdoor”. We’re good recruiters, but retention is our downfall.
Every Member needs involvement, recognition and support. Every Club needs to create
an environment that meets those needs.
Knights of the Blind
In 1925 Helen Keller challenged the Lions to become “knights of the blind in a crusade against darkness”. Aiding the blind has been our core goal ever since that moment. I’m asking every Lions Club to be a crusader by contributing to Lions’ programs which serve the blind, specifically:
SightFirstII, The Pride Campaign and Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin. Don’t forget our District programs - The Center for Blind & Visually Impaired Children and Sight Conservation.
Joy
Why come to meetings or work at events if we don’t enjoy it? The reason we are organized as Clubs is so that we can have fun and fellowship.
• I encourage every Member to take our missions seriously, but not themselves. Have fun and create fellowship.
• Please wear your Lions Pin.
• Take time to appreciate the joy of Lionism – you know that overwhelming feeling when
you deliver a food basket or transport eye tissue or help at the Special Olympics. We’re
not in the pancake, chicken, or bar business. Our business is creating joy!
