Knucklehead Bowling

Dear Knucklehead Bowling Participant, May 30, 2007

The Big Bend/Vernon Lions Club would like to Thank You for your support and participation in this years 1st Annual Knuckleheads Bowling Tournament. Because of your support, we met our goal of helping a Big Bend family with a two year old boy suffering from C.H.A.R.G.E. Syndrome Disease. The proceeds are used to send the entire family to San Diego, California for a conference to help families cope and deal with this dreaded disease.

We had a total of 165 bowlers which was more than what we were expecting for the first year. A total of $1,155 was collected as prize money (165 X $7.00). There were two Natural – 300 games bowled, Lion Bill Schiessl and Dan Morris at $50 payout each. There was only (1) 9-Pin Tap 300-game payout at $5. Therefore, the remaining prize money to be paid out is $1,050. (1) out of (6) get paid = 165/6 = 28 winners. The winners are listed on the attached result sheet.

Wheel Barrel of Booze winner – Vicky Dare of Waukesha
Basket of Booze winner – Renae Plehn of North Prairie

Again, we would like to Thank You for your participation and support. We hope to see you at next year’s 2nd Annual Knuckleheads Bowling Tournament – Same Place, Same Time.

Sincerely,

Lion Bob Brandemuehl

A Dozen Ways to Make Your Club More Visiblepromote
by Jay Copp
Eighty percent of success is showing up, Woody Allen famously remarked. The comedian may have been joking but what he said was true. There is no substitute for being present. It’s true when it comes to humor—“You had to be there.” It’s true for politicians who want to get elected, so they press the flesh. It’s true for parents who want to raise good kids—being with them is essential. It’s true for sales people, who often can’t close the deal without personal contact.

Club Names Go Far Beyond Breakfast, Noon and Eveninglion
by Jay Copp

Most names of Lions clubs are straightforward and make perfect sense.
The Winona Noon Lions Club in Minnesota draws most of its members from Winona, a picturesque town located on the bluffs of the Mississippi River. The club meets—you guessed it—at noon on Mondays.

LCIF’s Highest Honor: The Melvin Jones Fellowship

May 21st, 2007

By Therese Boehl

How many Lions does it take to exemplify the outstanding commitment of Lions Clubs International Foundation and the causes it supports? Roughly 250,000 worldwide. That’s the number of Lions who have been awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship, the highest honor available from LCIF. Begun in 1968, LCIF has provided funding for many humanitarian service projects, both locally and worldwide. The foundation provided grants totaling $38.5 million last year alone. Without the generous donations from Lions, however, such projects would not be possible.

by Brett Rush

Meet Larkspur Champion Lions Club President Ray Johansson. President Johansson, 37, leads a club nearly 40 members strong. The club recently partnered with the Salvation Army to raise money for the homeless, organized a giving tree for needy children and established a phenomenally successful third-Friday dance fund raiser that continues to draw crowds. Retention is strong, membership is growing and the club is making a positive impact in the community.
