Results of the Lions Club Fisheree

May 16th, 2007

The good Lord graced us with a picture perfect day for our 5th annual fisheree and meat raffle. We had a record number of fisherman competing for the cash in four fish categories. Most of the fisherman were already checked- in, and on the crystal clear water of Lake Ripley by 7:00am. There was a steady flow of fish to be weighed and measured, with the majority of fish being bluegills and crappies. A large number of bass were also weighed and measured with Bob Granger of Madison taking the 1st place prize and plaque. Scott Omit and Adam Eisele placed 2nd and 3rd respectively.

Rounding out the competition in the pan fish division was 1st place Harry Brodd of Deerfield, 2nd place, Joe Peters of Cambridge, and 3rd place went to Doug Johnson of Cambridge.

The Cambridge Lions Club members grilled hamburgers, brats, and hot dogs throughout the day, and held a very successful meat and pie raffle during the latter half of the day. We would like to thank a very special anonymous lady who supplied us with at least 10 home made pies and cheesecakes to raffle off. The quality of these pies was 1st class as I should know. I won a blackberry cheesecake and it looked so good we ate it soon after winning it!

Cambridge Elementary School and the Lions

May 16th, 2007
Press Release

From: Cambridge Elementary School and The Cambridge Lions Club
When: Thursday May 4th, 10:00am in the Cambridge Elementary School Parking lot
What: Shipment of items to the Wisconsin 32nd Brigade
The Cambridge Volunteer Fire Department will be receiving cartons full of love and care from the students and the Lions Club. Students in the 3rd through 5th grades have been writing notes and drawing pictures to include in the shipment to show thier support for the Wisconsin soldiers stationed in Iraq. This is a voluntary activity, so that we could ler Wisconsin soldiers know that we are still thinking about them day in and day out.

The 5th graders brainstormed ideas of what soldiers might enjoy receiving. Some students went home abd asked their parents who had served in the Armed Forces. After talking with Liz Nitardy and others, it was decided to send 1800 pieces of junk food and several dozen notes and pictures to our extended family located in and around Iraq. The Cambridge Lions Club aide the elementary students by helping with a major donation. The Cambridge Piggly Wiggly and the Wisconsin Packaging Corporation located in Fort Atkinson helped with reduced prices and free shipping cartons. The Goods will be packed on Cambridge Volunteer Fire trucks and will be carried to parcel post by members of the department.

90th Anniversary Calls Us to Consider Change

January 27th, 2007

Jimmy Ross by Jimmy M. Ross
President, The International Association of Lions Clubs

When a loved one reaches a 90th birthday, we usually can proudly say he or she has lived a rich, full life. This year we celebrate the 90th anniversary of something near and dear to all of us — Lions Clubs International, founded in 1917 in Chicago by businessman Melvin Jones.

Yes, we’ve had a rich, full history, marked by service unmatched by any other service club. But the best is yet to come.
